Akira skipped up to the front entrance to the club and waved a greeting to the Sentinels. “That’s him,” one of them said.
“Yeah, that Hunter saved us,” the other echoed. Akira glanced up at Night with pride. It warmed Night’s heart, despite the sinking feeling he held there. He was dreading this confrontation with Akira’s Alpha. For the first time in his life, Night was afraid. He was afraid of being told he couldn’t be with Akira, the first person in his life to make him feel anything. He didn’t know if they would be together forever, but damn it, didn’t they deserve the chance to see?
“I told y’all he was hot stuff.” Akira’s grin made every worry melt away.
“He’s waiting for you. Felt you coming. He’s already notified the surrounding males of your moontide, and he wants to speak with your Hunter.” The Sentinel on the left stepped forward and extended his hand. “Thank you, Hunter.”
Night couldn’t help but feel shocked. He was always a loner, always hated, and now this Were was actually thanking him. He felt pride in his decision to stop Demetri for the first time since he’d killed his cousin. He shook the other man’s hand. “Really, it was nothing.”
“Bullshit. That took balls bigger than mine and Jake’s combined,” he corrected the Hunter with a grin. “If you need a petition into the Pack, you’ve got my vote.”
Akira swatted the other man’s hand away. “That’s enough out of you. I’m petitioning as is, but we will appreciate the vote.” Night exchanged glances with Akira. This was Night’s only chance of survival. No doubt his father had dispatched some trackers the minute Demetri didn’t report to him. There was no way Night could outrun his entire race. If he wanted to stay alive, he needed the protection the Pack offered, but being accepted into a Pack was no easy feat. Rarely were outsiders allowed into a Pack they weren’t born in, and never had there been a Hunter accepted into a Pack. He had no choice. If he were anyone else, he could have just disappeared off the face of the planet and kept himself hidden with magicks, but he was a Stragorri and heir to the Hunter throne. That meant there would be no escape. There would be no hiding. For as long as he lived, no one else could be king.
“Akira!” the Alpha’s voice snapped over the PA system in the club.
“I’m coming. I’m coming.” Akira grabbed hold of Night’s hand and began dragging him past the two Sentinels. “See you later, guys.”
Night staggered a few steps as he tried to keep up with Akira’s pace. “Akira, wait,” Night said, grabbing Akira’s wrist to stop him. “I have to tell you something before we go before your Alpha.” He looked at him with all seriousness in his eyes.
“What?” Akira asked. He looked around anxiously, clearly not wanting to keep his Alpha waiting much longer.
“I just wanted you to know that no
